I have never imagined that I would marry a white man. I mean, I am even more surprise that I am married at all. Have you met me? Crazy, carefree and careless sum up me.
My husband has a beautiful family. One thing I notice though, 99% of males in the family have a thing for Asians. My brother-in-law has a Malaysian wife, including an ex-wife. I am, of course, Filipino. Not the only one, because my husband's nephew's girlfriend is Filipino too. His other nephew has a long-term relationship with an Indian girl.
Then comes my son. Yeah, he likes a girl named Olivia. I think she is Chinese by the sound of her last name. I ask him why she is the only one getting a gift for Easter. He says, "because she has pretty earrings and a face that is nice to look at." Nice choice of words in place of 'beautiful' or 'pretty' or 'cute' which most boys his age might describe a girl they like.
I have to admit, I am a bit concern about how he would treat a girl or a woman someday. His dad is not much of a role model. My husband loves me, but he lacks the understanding of being a man, least not a gentleman. I cannot blame him. I can only blame, unfortunately, his father and his absence in my husband's nurturing years.
It is safe to say, though, that I am filling in for my husband. After all, I have a dad, a grandfather, and uncles as strong examples. I also have other families, and even the male staff to observe from. I have never been poor on testosterone presence.
And when I say I am also being the dad. What I mean is, I also teach my son how to kick properly in Martial Arts. I have to learn how to read and play notes on the piano too, so I can teach him proper music. His dad plays the guitar. Aimlessly. That's about it. *sigh*. Noise.
I use to demand paternal efforts but it is pointless, so I decide to take matters to my hand and dig deep into my male side. Aah, I remember a friend (God bless his soul) who has told everyone in a little gig, "Cielo? She's a not a girl, she is amazing." Hahahaha!
I just need my son to treat women properly despite any reason at all. "Stay frosty, stay calm, hold your ground if a woman throws her crazies." Let her slap you, if she should, but do not walk away, just hold her tight as you could and tell her, "It is going to be fine" until she is back to her senses. That is what I always tell him.
I must be a man in my former life, because I know how being one should be,
